FAQS

How long will a refinished bathtub last?
With proper care and maintenance, Advanced Resurfacing's refinishing can extend the useful life of your fixtures for up to 10-15 years or more.
Do refinished bathtubs look painted?
Our resurfacing process works so well the deep gloss of our refinished bathtubs resembles new porcelain. Most people have trouble telling the difference between an Advanced Resurfacing bathtub and a new one.
How durable are refinished bathtubs?
Advanced Resurfacing uses the most technologically advanced coating available. These finishes are designed to stand up to daily use. However, like a newly manufactured bathtub, a refinished surface can be chipped or scratched if misused.
How long does it take to refinish a bathtub?
A standard size bathtub, in reasonable condition, takes only 3 to 5 hours to refinish. The tub will typically be ready to use within 24 hours, or even sooner with special curing procedures.
How does refinishing compare to replacement costs?
Refinishing costs vary by state, but refinishing will almost always be a fraction of the total cost of replacing a bathtub or ceramic tile surround. Replacing a bathtub and surround can easily cost $3000 or more when you consider the cost of removal, plumbing, setting new tile, and other fees. Refinishing can often save you up to 75% compared to the cost of replacement!
Can Advanced Resurfacing fix chips, cracks, and scratches?
Small chips and cracks can typically be repaired during the preparation phase. With careful color matching, the repaired surface will be practically invisible.
Does the refinishing process create an odor?
New acrylic bathtub finishes contain solvents which are necessary to make the finish hard and durable. We use special ventilation fans to exhaust odors and smells from the work area. Dissipation of the odor depends on a variety of factors including temperature and amount of air moved. Generally, most of the odor dissipates within 24-48 hours as the finish completely cures creating a long lasting, beautiful finish. In the event you are sensitive to paint-like odors, please let us know so we can discuss accommodations for your service.
What other surfaces can Advanced Resurfacing refinish?
We can refinish a variety of surfaces including fiberglass, porcelain, acrylics, cultured marble, ceramic tile, and other laminates.
How does refinishing work on kitchen countertops?
Countertops can be updated and made to look like new with Advanced Resurfacing’s refinishing process. Countertop finishes come in a variety of colors and textures. They're also easy to clean and are significantly lower in cost compared to replacement.
Do refinished surfaces need special care?
Care instructions are similar to those for most brand new bathtubs or countertops. Do NOT use cleaners that contain abrasives, harsh acids, or bleach. Most bathtubs, sinks and tile become damaged, worn, and dull due to abrasive cleansers
How does refinishing compare to bathtub liners?
Bathtub liners are plastic covers that are fitted over old or damaged bathtubs. Their cost is at least twice as expensive as Advanced Resurfacing refinishing and can take up to 3 to 4 weeks from ordering to installation. Liners can leak and create mold problems as well.
